If you’re pregnant, make sure that your doctor is okay with you working out with Zumba. When I was pregnant, my doctor said it was okay for me to  Zumba as long as I was not high risked. This could be okay for you too but I rather you be safe than sorry so let’s make sure to get the doctors approval first. Here are some other important things to keep in mind before starting with Zumba:

Zumba has a lot of high impact moves that can wreak havoc as your hormones loosen up your joints.  You can try  switching out some of those jumps and bounces that might interfere with your balance. Always stay cool and hydrated while working out.

If you have knee, arthritis, or back pain you may want to lay low on the high impact moves. Try some other ways to make it easy on your joints.

If you have a handicap or other physical limitation, consider wheelchair Zumba classes, which are a good, fun, nonweight-bearing workout.

Are you a diabetic? Zumba is an excellent way to lose weight and maintain good muscle building and will lower your blood sugars as well. First, check in with your doctor for approval. 

Zumba helps lower your risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and cholesterol. Sometimes with heart disease, your doctor may recommend something else for you like an cardiac rehab program so before starting Zumba it’s best to run it by your doctor first. It’s always best to take safety precautions.

Zumba is an incredible fitness. I dance to Zumba and it feels like I’m just dancing instead of working out.  I guess that is the best part about it. Zumba can be done at a facility, at a local place, or at home. For all beginners, the best way to start would be to do it at home until you get more familiarized with it but this is optional and completely up to you. Zumba is designed to tone your body from head to toe. You’re going to be working every muscle in your body sweating and shedding fat while you’re dancing.   1. Hi Courtney, this was really informative. I’m glad I came across this site. I really enjoy Zumba, and since it’s a form of dancing, it doesn’t always feel like exercise. It’s definitely one of my favourite ways to exercise.

    My gym only does Zumba classes twice a week, so it’s a good thing you suggested getting a Zumba DVD collection, now I can do some extra sessions at home 🙂
